Forensic science is the practical application
of science to matters of the law. In criminal law, forensic science can help prove the guilt or innocence of the defendant.
In civil actions, forensics can help resolve a broad spectrum of legal issues through the identification, analysis and evaluation
of physical evidence.
A variety of scientific principles from biology, physics and chemistry
are meshed together to address: document examination; DNA analysis; fingerprinting; autopsy techniques; hair and fiber trace
evidence; forensic engineering; forensic anthropology; pathology; economics; biology; entomology; and drugs & toxicology.
This course is an overview of a variety of topics that will demonstrate how science is used to answer questions.
Information is delivered through lectures, labs, videos, case studies, on-line activities and field trips/visits. Attention
to detail is important.
